In a time of high inflation where food, gas, and rent are skyrocketing, Publix isn’t in line with reality as Associates are given pitiful raises. In the Atlanta area alone where consumer prices went up 16% from 2020 to 2022, hard-working Associates are given 6 to 7 percent raises. Forcing Associates to either get a second job or quit entirely, causing staff shortages. These are the inevitable results of an unlivable wage.
Publix Associates in Georgia have had enough – it’s time for some change.
It’s unacceptable to have Associates close an entire department alone. It’s immoral to have part-time Associates’ hours cut when pay isn’t liveable, forcing many to get a second job or quit altogether. All the while, full-time Associates are expected to cover management created holes in the schedule, working overtime in the process.
Erratic scheduling is an artificial problem created by corporate policy and managerial mismanagement.
While Publix's full-time benefits are better than other grocery stores, it’s not good enough for all Associates. Denying sick pay in the middle of a pandemic where our heroic Associates have gotten sick is unjust. Paying full price for Publix products and not receiving a discount is making Associates feel like customers. Over-time compensation is limited to holidays while penalties are year-round. This is unfair to full-time Associates who have to work extra hours while part-time Associate’s hours are cut.
This isn’t a great place to work!
When an Associate is paid a wage that barely pays the bills, has their hours cut for no justifiable reason, and doesn’t get essential compensation for catching COVID, what are they supposed to do? These issues aren’t the fault of the Associate. It is the fault of how this company is run. When will Publix treat the Associates that keep the stores running with dignity? Publix will not make these changes by itself. No Associate Voice Survey or loading dock cookout will help.
It’s time to organize!
